Good pruning helps trees.
Bad pruning causes problems.
The goal is to make your trees healthier, more attractive and safer to be around. Because trees in an urban or residential area have different environmental needs (think poor placement, drought, soil impaction, nutrient deficits) than forested trees, our residential trees require some extra time and attention.

Trees naturally shed twigs and branches. By removing dead, dying or diseased wood, which the tree is already trying to shed, we accelerate the healing process, and help to maintain an optimum structure and canopy.
By cutting a limb at the right spot, known as the branch collar, we help to keep the tree healthy and structurally sound. Improper pruning leads to weaker tree structure, which can lead to disease or storm damage for the tree.
As an arborist we’re well acquainted with the term “branch collar”. It’s the junction where the trunk section ends and the branch starts. It’s formed by the growth of the trunk section and the branch overlapping. And yes, it looks like a wood collar! And it’s the sign of a well pruned tree.

Proper pruning will make your trees more attractive, and you’ll have less to clean up when the wind blows.

When your tree is properly pruned, hazardous branches will be removed. This often entails removing hundreds of pounds of deadwood out of mature trees.
And of course, using the right equipment to prune keeps the homeowner safe.
Trees are wonderfully long lived organizims that give us so much…… health, beauty, serenity and more.
Let’s take good care of them.
